Oscar 2016 Red Carpet- The Hits and Misses

It is the time of the year again- The Academy Awards aka the biggest prom night of Hollywood. Although the whole world is celebrating the fact that Leonardo Dicarpio finally won his first Oscars… I am celebrating the Oscars for the personal bests and worst looks on the red carpet.
This year, I have to admit I am disappointed at how safe the actresses played. Although there were few surprising trends- Green, Interesting  Textured Fabric and a surprising lack of red dresses.  For me across the board, many starlets made fashion choices which are safe although not offensive….
But thankfully there are superstars who earned Fashion Oscars from Me for their Fashion Statements while More thankfully, in a year lack of fashion mishaps, I can finally hand out a few Fashion Rasberry Awards to the risks that didn’t work out.
Although this is an extra long post but hope you will hang in till the end of this post of 19 looks that caught my attention at the Oscars this year.

Cate Blanchett in Custom Armani Prive

My first reaction is OMG (as usual with everything she wears), but after a while I began to question whether I liked this more than I should because it is super tough to wear- the mint green colour, the plunging neckline, the feathers and crystals, the stiff taffeta fabric…. This dress has the quintessential elements to become a drag queen costume yet Queen Cate, being the goddess of fashion risks somehow managed to pull it off. Really celebrate that because on anyone else, this would’ve immediately entered tacky field- think Heidi Klum in this dress.  For me not the #dressofthenight but definitely the #lookofthenight.

At first glance my reaction is Prom Dress because you guys know I always prefer Fashion Statements than pretty but when I truely think about it, she KNOWS she will win so she us under the pressure of having a dress which looks timeless holding the statue for the Oscar Hall of Fame. It is a pretty dress and I really appreciate the fact that she chose royal blue- a color which rarely appears on an Oscars Winner. That enough forgives the fact that she chose an ultra safe dress.

Sorry Cate but for me #dressofthenight. As soon as I saw this dress on the runway, I was praying to see it on Queen Cate but thankfully the perfect women did it justice. Yes it is a sequin bath towel but it is an interesting and dramatic one.  I question the necklace because I am not crazy about necklaces with tube dresses but the hair and makeup is on point.  She looks like she is a nominated even though she is there as a guest to present an award.  Kudos to the effort.
Kate Winslet in Ralph Lauren

A fashion risk for her. Yes its strapless and black. Yes it is a body con dresss with a side train although in photographs it looks like a ballgown HOWEVER the shiny fabric and the dramatic side train is something new. Love the juxtaposition of the shine of the fabric against the slightly beachy hair. We don’t expect her to be a fashion icon but thanks for taking fashion challenges with baby steps.
Jennifer Garner in Versace

Old Hollywood Glamour. Its a black dress yet it is dramatic as hell.  The silhouette, the one shoulder strap, the fitted skirt with the overlay….  This is a dress on paper could’ve been boring but it was executed perfectly.  Thank god Versace can still give us these ultra dramatic yet not tacky red carpet fashion moments. Love the fact that she kept the hair/makeup/jewellery simple otherwise this would’ve looked like a costume.  This is an Oscar Winner’s Dress…. and she is there as a presenter…. Welcome back to the RC Jennifer Garner.
Lady Gaga in Brandon Maxwell

88th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

I was super unsure about this at first because it seem slightly informal for the Oscars but when I saw her performance outfit and her Vanity Fair After Party Outfit, it made sense. She is conceptually trying to do white trousers in 3 different looks. Also she is trying to find a balance between Lady Gaga the Performer and Lady Gaga the Actress. If this is the new GaGA way to wear gown + pants on the Red Carpet by wearing everything white and minimal… I buy it…. because this is truely beautiful.

Heidi Klum in Marchesa

Oscars 2016 Worse Dressed Heidi Klum in Marchesa

#NO …. Excuse my language but I have a hatred for diagonal cutouts across the breast area because 9/10 times it looks like they are wearing their vagina on their boobs. But dear Heidi a sheer sleeve does not make this dress demure. In fact it made me wish you cut off the sleeve so as tacky as the dress is we can at least say at least she got the proportions right and At least she is not wearing a naked dress….

Kerry Washington in Versace

I appreciate her always trying to take a fashion risk on the red carpet and always never go the safe root and if this dress is worn to something more casual- maybe the Golden Globes she probably would’ve gotten away with it- but I really don’t get the black armor style bodice which does not fit at the bust.  I HATE the pocket like leather detail on the skirt and the slit just don’t do anything to the look.  Also where is the drama? This just look like an ill fitting fishtail dress rendered in Leather to attempt to look “edgy”.  Imagine this in red silk and beading then it would’ve been the biggest bore of a dress which we see at the Oscars every year.

Oliver Wilde in Valentino Haute Couture

Kudos for doing something different. This was the most googled dress of the night, HOWEVER, I can not get behind that much skin on the red carpet.  Not only it had the plunging neckline, but the open back extended to the side boob. . She looks like a vulgar version of Princess Leia. The choker is pointless and cuts the neck off.  It almost made me wish she wore statement earrings and kept the look vulgar because at least the proportions would be right.

Mindy Kaling in Melissa Kennedy

From the front I don’t mind it.  A classic body con dress with cap sleeves and a train.  The color is alright if not a bit safe HOWEVER, the back of the dress is enough for me to put her in the worst dressed list.  That looks like the way we tie sweatshirts on our waists during a hot day.  The fabric of the cape/train looks cheap and gets winkled every time she sits which is pointless since she would be sitting half the time.  Good attempt but #NO.
Jennifer Lawerence in Christian Dior Haute Couture

What a bore.  I don’t mind the black lace but I always have a problem with lace bodices lined in nude colored fabrics because it looks like the wearer don’t have nipples.  Really don’t get black darts which goes up to her boobs.  Also really hate how old she looks.  This dress with sleeves without the darts with a sweetheart lining  in black is a Helen Mirren dress.  The hair looks like she did it in 5 minutes.

Alicia Vikanda in Louis Vuitton

88th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

By far, the biggest disappointment of the night. It is a pretty dress and there is nothing wrong with the total look of the dress, but total let down compared to the other looks she did for this year’s awards season.  As the Fashionista of the year, I was expecting her to do something edgy, unique and dramatic, instead she went the Disney Princess root.  I get it is her first Oscars and she had a high chance of winning but I was expecting more.  Has she worn this to a movie premier for The Danish Girl, definitely would’ve been best dressed but for the final awards show of the season, this is just blah…. The hair took it to Prom territory.

Charlize Theron in Dior Haute Couture

Oscars 2016 Dissappointment CHARLIZE THERON DIOR

It is a very sexy look, the necklace looks beautiful but another let down of the night.  In her past Oscars appearances, she has a tendency to wear some of the most memorable Oscars looks of all time and this wasn’t one of them.  Its a red fishtail dress with a plunging neckline.  She looks good because of her statuesque figure but she looks good in anything.  Is it one of the better looks of the night? Yes. But is it as memorable as her dramatic bow in 2006 or The white structured gown with super short hair in 2013? Definitely not.

Rachel Adams in August Getty Atelier

The colour looks beautiful and I get she is going for a slightly minimalist  but the fabric is unforgivable for sitting in a limo.  There was not one photo which didn’t show any winkles on it and this is before the show.  Imagine how the dress would’ve looked IF she won by the time she sat for an hour.  Also that train is WAY TOO LONG for her height.  Such a disappointment for an Oscar Nominee.  This dress without the train would’ve been a dress which the ladies who give the Oscars to the Presenters would wear.

Priyanka Choyard in Zuhair Murad

The face looks beautiful. But yawn another naked dress.  Miss Priyanka : Beyonce and Kim Kardashian wants their Wedding After Party dress back.

Reese Witherspoon in Oscar De La Renta

Oscars 2016 Dissappointment Oscar de le renta

The color is gorgeous. The hair and makeup looks beautiful as usual.  But from the draped fabric on the bust with the exposed boning to that line to the super stiff fabric, it looks like an over designed bridesmaids dress. Taffeta winkles easily and that line that cuts right across the waist makes her look wide. Safe and Problemic yes, Offensive? no.
Saoirse Ronan in Calvin Klien Collection

88th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

. (Photo by Frazer Harrison/Getty Images)

This is very sexy, slightly unique and a risk for her first Oscars. There is something almost Studio 54 about it. But I think the sheer skirt cheapen the whole look.  I like the idea of the mis matching earrings but its not for such a symmetrical dress.  Also this dress needed a statement cuff.

Julianne Moore in Chanel

88th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

When Kendal Jenner walked this dress  in the Chanel Haute Couture Fashion Show , I knew it would appear at the Academy Awards.  I have to admit I was surprised to see it on Julienne Moore.  The Bodice is stunning and I love the fact that it the statement earrings with it. The perfect hair and makeup looks BEAUTIFUL.  HOWEVER, I wish they didn’t modify it.  On the runway the triangle under the bust was alot bigger and extended into a train in front of the skirt which for me wasn’t THAT unconventional and gave the skirt a bit of interesting detail.  Without it, the skirt felt plain and this dress turned into a classic ballgown.  Also I am not sure whether she is the right person for this dress because it felt too edgy for her if not modified but too pretty for her now that it is modified.  On the other hand, maybe I am just nip picking because I was hoping another actress wore it to the Oscars.

Rooney Mara in Custom Givenchy Haute Couture

88th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

Rooney Mara was my pick for Julienne’s dress.  This Givenchy is very her- Lace, slightly unconventional and dark romantic.  But I feel like I’ve seen this dress a million times on her before.  The buttons in the front is pretty and I am glad she didn’t wear cream.  But I need something new on her.  There are other ways to do dark romance – think Valentino but it can always be more than a lace dress with tulle.  That cutout is unforgiveable and the hair while very her is not right for the gown.  It is very Rooney, But I NEED MORE.

Thats it for now. Sorry about the extra long post. The Academy Awards Red Carpets is my second favourite time of the year- (My favorite will always be the Met Gala).

BAFTAS 2016- 10 Red Carpet looks for Discussion

We are heading towards the end of the red carpet season and the fashion for BAFTAS (British Academy Awards) 2016 was a big surprise.
Usually it is a red carpet where during the season where stylist are trying to save the best dress for the Oscars so usually the Peoples Choice,SAG  and BAFTAS Award red carpets are left over dresses which didn’t made it to the Golden Globes Awards but not the star which will be seen at the Oscars. Which is why when I saw how much fashion statements and well dressed the starlets were (a bit disappointed too because no worse dress for me to joke about).
Textures and embellishments continues to become a trend while several starlets decide to go minimal and elegant. What truely stood out is more than ever, the starlets truely know the role they play interms of Red Carpet Style so I’ve decided to pick 10 looks which is worth nip pick discussion.
Without further doodahs, here are the looks.

Cate Blanchett in Custom Alexander McQueen

EE British Academy Film Awards - Red Carpet Arrivals

The queen is back of the red carpet in McQueen. This is the typical Blanchett formular- Dramatic, Unique and not easy to wear. I was waiting for her to wear Alexander McQueen to the red carpet season this year so I find it beautiful as usual.  My only complaint being her major fan, since the bodice was paired with jeans at the fashion show , they paired a feather skirt which came from the same dress Cate have worn to the Met Gala a few years ago. Just wish the skirt is something different but I am just nip picking because I am her biggest fan. Perfect hair , makeup and jewellery.

Alicia Vikander in Custom Louis Vuitton

Sorry Cate, this is my personal best dressed of the night because this is truely a case of the wearer pulling off a dress which is so wrong work in so many ways.  In concept, I hate the dress on its own because it look like a gown version of warrior princess armor decorated with tinsels.  However for some reason, her unique beauty made this unusual dress work like its a silk gown with crystal embellishments and to remind everyone this is her first awards season red carpet.  She have proven herself that she is the Lupita Ngong’o or this year’s red carpet.  Can’t wait to see what she wears to the Oscars (definitely Louis Vuitton because of her contract).

Kate Winslet in Antonio Berardi

EE British Academy Film Awards - Red Carpet Arrivals

Yes, this is the same body-con column gown she have worn on the red carpet in the past 10 years but you can’t deny she looks beautiful.  The neckline and the arm detail is edgy for her and eventhough the clutch blended in to the red carpet in photos, the pop of red really sexed up the look. My only complaint is that I wished she wore a red shoe to turn it into a styling colour blocking.   She is super lucky that it was a windy day in London because 80% of the photos look like she had a wind machine around her.  Eventhough I always don’t like boring but you can’t deny the fact that she looks and feels beautiful and thats whats important.

Stacy Martin in Miu Miu

EE British Academy Film Awards - Red Carpet Arrivals

Although this look did not get much coverage from the press, for me this Miu Miu dress was one of the best dresses of the night. From the richness of the red velvet, the crystal applique to the plunging neckline, this is sexy yet very regal and romantic.  The dark red does not clash with the red carpet and the makeup and hair is on point.  Miuccia Prada fails 80% of the time in terms of red carpet gowns but this is one of the most memorable since Lupita’s baby blue dress when she won her first Oscars.

Dakota Johnson in Christian Dior

EE British Academy Film Awards - Red Carpet Arrivals

Dakota Johnson wants to put herself as Americas New Sweetheart – the next Jennifer Lawrence and this Dior dress is perfect for her ambition to take this role.  Its simple, pretty and appeal to the general American Public.  The simple hair and makeup is beautiful and I am glad she didn’t go overboard with the jewellery.  My wish is I hope she doesn’t wear Red, Black, White or Silver to the Oscars because its slowly feeling like she is trying to hard to dressing up as her 50 Shades of Grey character going to awards shows.Dree Hemingway in Erdem

EE British Academy Film Awards - Red Carpet Arrivals

Speaking of Red, I love a printed dress so this look is another look that I love which I was so surprised didn’t get talked about as much as it should.  From the red lace which is difficult to pull off without looking trashy, to the red flower embroidery gives it a slight vintage feel and I really love the antique style silhouette.  This almost looks like an antique wedding gown dyed red.  The simple bun and the red lip made it modern.  Usually I hate red on red but this is done perfectly.

Rooney Mara in Givenchy Haute Couture

Baftas 2016 Rooney Mara Givenchy Haute Couture

Flesh Coloured dresses seem to be Rooney’s go to colour for this year’s awards season- this is another predictable example- column dress in a lace like fabric, deconstructed frayed edges with super edgy hair.  Its very her and not a bad look, however I am PRAYING she doesn’t go for this colour again for the Oscars.  Almost enough for me to want her to wear black or white….

Laura Whitmore in Suzanne Neville

EE British Academy Film Awards - Red Carpet Arrivals

Another under rated look on the red carpet.  Turquoise is not a colour we see often on a red carpet because it can go wrong so easily especially on a blond.  Laura’s beautiful tanned skin is perfect for the dress. Really love the silhouette, the bold shoulders , the perfect keyhole which shows the perfect amount of cleavage without looking slutty. The soft hair and the earth tone makeup is perfect for the look.  This is old hollywood glamour done in a new way. Definitely one of the biggest fashion risks of the night.

Saoirse Ronan in Custom Burberry

EE British Academy Film Awards - Red Carpet Arrivals

The silhouette is very basic but it is brave for a relatively new starlet on the red carpet to try such a bold embroidery fabric especially one with such a sweet face which I think she is close to pulling it off.  The side panel helped giving the dress shape although would love to see more of it to get more of an hour glass.  The hair and makeup is soooo pretty- love the cat eye with the ponytail. The problem is the necklace it is jarring and unnecessary.  If she wore statement earrings with a cuff this would’ve been perfect. Great dress ruined by bad styling.

Julienne Moore in Giogio Armani

EE British Academy Film Awards - Red Carpet Arrivals

This is the most elegant she has ever looked and better than the fussy Chanel looks she sometimes go for on the red carpet. The silhouette, the cut and train looks super chic.  I just wished she didn’t go for the ballerina bun because it seem abit age inappropriate.  Also this feels very under accessorised.  I get she tried to wear the black statement earrings to match the train and the shoes, I wish she went with statement diamonds and added a cuff  to glam it up and make it go with the red lip.  Improved yes. But please go to Tom Ford for the Oscars.

GOLDEN GLOBES 2016-The Glam, The Cutouts and the 50 shades of Flesh

The Golden Globes 2016 have arrived.
Every red carpet have their dress code. Unlike the Oscars which demands big dramatic evening gowns, The Golden Globes Awards is the red carpet which have a very open dress code with holly wood fashionistas wearing a wide range of styles from dramatic couture gowns to cute cocktail dresses. Its the red carpet which calls for fashion statements without the requirement to look formal.
This year the stars have really amped it up so there are no major fashion disasters on the red carpet, although if I have to nip pick, there is a few mishap on the styling department.  Side cutouts and plunging necklines were a major trend with many stars daring to bare some skin without wearing the naked dress (thank god).  However, nude tones was the colour of the night although there are a few starlets whom surprised us by wearing a bright colour for the first time in a while.
Since there are not really a worst dressed list this year, I’ve decided to narrow this review down to 15 looks which is worth featuring (although praying for major #wtf fashion moments in future RC this year so I can do the worst dressed list you all seem to love so much).
Without further Doodahs here is my red carpet review of the Golden Globes 2016.

Cate Blanchett in Givenchy Haute Couture

73rd Annual Golden Globe Awards - Arrivals

I am so happy I saw this eventhough I know I’ve said on instagram that I was hoping to see her in a designer besides Givenchy or Armani Prive. This is unique, this is a fashion statement and only Queen Cate can pull this off. She looks like a modern version of Greta Garbo. The hair and makeup is so on point with this soft elegant yet edgy creation. Can’t wait to see what she wears next during awards season.

Lady Gaga in Atelier Versace

Lady Gaga

If Cate Blanchett is channeling Greta Garbo, then Lady GaGa is Channeling Marilyn Monroe. Really love the way her style is evolving going from OTT to glamorous movie star. This is classic hollywood glamour. The padded hip gave her the perfect hour glass figure while never realised that she has such beautiful shoulders to pull off this neckline. The slinky way the black velvet moved was so sexy.  Keep up the good work Mother Monster.

Jennifer Lopez in Giambattista Valli Haute Couture

73rd Annual Golden Globe Awards - Arrivals

One of the biggest surprise of the night. Really love the fact that she didn’t wear another naked sparkly dress and let this beautiful shade of yellow give the diva drama. The colour of the dress looks so beautiful against her (fake) tan and the dark burgundy lip. Love the cape because its something new for her.  If I have to nip pick, I wish she ditched the necklace because the dress really don’t need it (this was for me one of the biggest fashion mishaps this year) but welcome back to the red carpet Jenny from the block

Jane Vonda in Yves Saint Laurent Couture by Hedi Slimane

Jane Fonda

I know many people will disagree with me but I actually love this a lot more than I should.  Yes I get the toilet paper reference but she is 78 YEARS OLD women taking a fashion risk by not wearing the usual illusion sleeve sparkly gown and still managed to look elegant.  The classic hair and makeup and minimal accessories makes this chic.  On any other women , this would definitely be worst dressed but for me, she pulled it off.

Alicia Vikander in Louis Vuitton

73rd Annual Golden Globe Awards - Arrivals

I didn’t like this dress at first glance because it reminded me of a elongated french maid’s apron but lately she tends to go for looks which is slightly off beat, bohemian with a historical costume touch to it so this gets points for being different because its so refreshing to see a young starlet experimenting with fashion on a major red carpet.  For me she is definitely the one to watch because she has the potential to be her version of Lupita or Cate if she continues to keep this up.

Kate Bosworth in Dolce & Gabbana

kate bosworth

Another big surprise by another fashion queen by the name of (k)ate. Love the hotpink sparkles.  At a music awards red carpet, this would never have stood out but this is glamour.  She looks like Christmas Cracker Barbie in the most fabulous way.  Love the fact that she kept her hair up because this dress with big curly hair will be sooooo tacky.

Amy Adams in Atelier Versace

GLAM Amy adams

Effortless Glamour.  Really love the silhouette and the sequins gives it a touch of richness to what could’ve been a plain red dress.  Really happy she chose not to do her hair up instead keeping it simple and fresh otherwise the dress would make her look old and here she looks 10 years younger. Never crazy about her red carpet choices so for me this is the best she have ever looked in a very long time.

Katy Perry in Prada

73rd Annual Golden Globe Awards - Arrivals

I get she is trying to go for 60s Glamour but like most Prada red carpet gowns, this dress is a bit meh.  Satin is one of the most unforgiving materials if you have to sit in a limo for a few hours and the winkles on the fabric is so obvious.  The neckline is a bit tacky for me .  Its not an offensive look but Katy Perry have turned herself into a fashion icon with her Fun, OTT numbers, this just looks like the dresses she wore in the beginning of her career.

Brie Lawson in Custom Calvin Klien

Brie Lawson

I tried to like it. The colour looks beautiful on her body ,the hair and makeup is perfect for it but the fit and proportions are way off for me.  She has a beautiful toned body but it looks like the dress is being dragged down, hanging by threads with the metalic collar because halter necklines should sit right on top of the collar bones. Good dress and styling but she just have the wrong body type for it because this dress needs someone with less well endowed bosoms.

Jennifer Lawrence in Christian Dior

73rd Annual Golden Globe Awards - Arrivals

Although for the past few years she hasn’t had the best experience with Dior because she always look unfinish or awkward, this is such a pleasant surprise.  She looks clean, polished and modern.  The hair and makeup is perfect for this dress.  If I had to be picky, I wish she cuffs instead of the necklace.  It is a beautiful necklace, just feel it might have even more impact if she didn’t wear it but otherwise this could be one of the best dior she have ever worn.

Jaimie Alexander in Genny

CUTOUTJaimie Alexander

I love the print and the colour of the dress.  The silhouette looks amazing on her body.  The only problem is the neckline looks too bare.  Unlike Jennifer Lawrence, I wish she wore a statement necklace to balance it up because this has the potential to be one of the best looks of the night.

Kate Hudson in Michael Kors Collection

73rd Annual Golden Globe Awards - Arrivals

We know she has a good body and cropped dresses is very on trend but I really can’t get behind this nude coloured Michael Kors. This looks like she picked up pieces Kim Kardashian thru out of her closet, got it resized and added sequins to it. Its so tacky. Hope she does better in future red carpets.

Kirsten Durst in Valentino Haute Couture

CUTOUTkirsten durst

I tried to like this Valentino because there is something very rich and vampy about black velvet HOWEVER her boobs are too big for it making it look vulgar. It ended up looking like a window showcasing her breasts. If this ended up on someone more flat chested it has the potential to be a real red carpet moment.

Eva Green in Elie Saab Haute Couture

FLESH Eva Green

Like all Elie Saab dresses, they are beautiful and super well fitted. I feel the dress clashes with the colours of her hair and makeup. Also her face is too edgy for such a demure basic dress to a point that she is wearing a brides maids dress she is forced to wear. I wish she embrace her edgy-ness because she can pull of something more dark and vampy.  Kirsten Durst’ s Valentino would’ve been perfect for her.

Rooney Mara in Alexander McQueen

FleshRooney Mara

Everyone was expecting her to wear black or white so in a way this is a surprise.  However this dress is too simular to the McQueen she wore to The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ 7th annual Governors Awards in November without the jacket. The colour is too close to her skin tone that it looks like her skin is peeling off the dress.   I get this is her signature look but I am still waiting for the day which she wears a bright colour like Red or Plum.  Beautiful Hair and Makeup Though….

Golden Globes Awards 2015 Red Carpet PART 2- Worse Dressed List

As seen in my previous blog post on the Fashion Hits of the Golden Globes Awards in 2015, there are also some major fashion misses this year. Every time I write the worse dressed list, I often get criticised for being too harsh and use people’s miss fortunes as my happiness but the way I see it is 1: the thing I’ve always loved about fashion is the fact that its subjective and everyone have their own opinion of what is beautiful and 2: These are Famous people who can get access to some of the most expensive dresses in the world with stylist, makeup artists and hair stylist who probably earn more a day than most of us do in a month, there is not much excuse to look bad on the red carpet so not gonna apologise for it.  Anyway to keep things short, here are the top 15 worse dressed celebrities at this year’s Golden Globes Awards.

Photos source: www.style.com

15- Salma Hayek, in Alexander McQueen (tie)
It hurts me to say this cause Alexander McQueen but even though the dress is pretty the dress and the styling just doesn’t look right on her.  The silver belt with the diamond jewellery and the knuckle clutch just don’t seem to match. The flowers with the soft waves feel to soft with the belt of the dress. On someone edgier (maybe Jennifer Lawrence or Marion Cotillard) and with the right styling this would’ve been beautiful but she is too exotic for this dress. She looks more like a beach bride in Miami than an actress at the golden globes red carpet.
Salma Hayek, in Alexander McQueen

15- Kate Beckinsale, in Elie Saab (tie)
Really can’t decide which is worse, Salma’s beach bride ensemble or this from miss Beckinsale. I like the top half of the dress with the metallic plunging neckline and I like the chiffon on the bottom of the dress but together it looks like 2 different dresses sewn together as one.  The make up is beautiful but the ballerina bun just killed it. She looks like these models hired to give the award to the presenter than the actual presenter herself.
15. Kate Beckinsale, in Elie Saab

14- Jennifer Lopez, in Zuhair Murad Haute Coutur
I know I’ve raved about Heidi Klum about being dramatic , sexy and knowing her image in my Best Dressed post, J’Lo did a similar thing but in the wrong way. I know this is very her and what we expect to see her in but the boobs, the big slit, the bling, the cape with the big hair it looks way too vulgar.  She look like a drunk drag queen on the way to a show in Las Vagas . If she wore this as a performance outfit or a music awards red carpet it would’ve worked but not at the Golden Globes. Great eye makeup though.
14. Jennifer Lopez, in Zuhair Murad Haute Couture

13- Keira Knightley, in Custom Chanel
I know I shouldn’t criticise a pregnant women and I am always up for prints or something unconventional on the red carpet but this just look like a pilgrim costume.  The collar feels very flat and the ruffles on the hem just feel like its the wrong length and makes her look short.  The butterfly on the clutch feel too matchy match with the dress. Such a shame cause the original dress the porportion was perfect. If she wore that to a movie premiere would’ve saved it. Beautiful hair and makeup though.
13. Keira Knightley, in custom Chanel, and James Righton

12- Ruth Wilson, in Prada
The silhouette is something I normally would love and the colour looks awesome with her hair but the problem with this dress is the diagonal stripe on her crotch it feels very odd and totally unnecessary unless she wants to tell the whole world that she is not available for sex that night.  The lines of the dress don’t work with the soft wavy hair and makeup. I love Prada and Miuccia is one of the most influencial designers in the world but 90% of the times they try to turn their ready to wear to red carpet dresses,  there is usually something wrong with it.

11- Matthew McConaughey, in Dolce & Gabbana with a Bulgari watch, and Camila Alves, in Monique Lhuillier
What a huge disappointment – one of the hottest couples in Hollywood ruined by very bad styling and grooming. The suit is ok but the beard just absolutely ruined the look. I get maybe its for a movie role but for god’s sake, you are last year’s winner presenting at the Golden Globes, please show some respect.  The dress itself is beautiful but just the wrong colouring on her skin tone. The highlights on her hair absolutely does her zero justice what so ever. From the neck up they both aged 20 years.
11. Matthew McConaughey, in Dolce & Gabbana, with a Bulgari watch, and Camila Alves, in Monique Lhuillier

10- Kate Hudson, in Atelier Versace
Another major disappointment of the night. The white looks good against her skin tone and the hair and makeup looks beautiful but this is way too sexy for her. The plunging neckline with the cutout just looks absolutely vulgar. The only thing you seem to look at is her boobs which looks like they are sagging. This probably would look good on J-Lo but for someone who usually gets it so right , she falls flat on her feel in pulling this off.
10.Kate Hudson, in Atelier Versace

9- Viola Davis, in Donna Karan Atelier
Red was the colour of the night and I always love it when a women of colour wear it cause it just pops against their skin tone but the silhouette of this dress makes her look very boxy with no waist.  While I get the fact that the sequins tries to give the illusion of the hour glass figure but instead it makes her body looks like her boobs are crying.  Really hate the tuck shop lady hair and thats WAY TO MUCH makeup for such a beautiful women.
9.Viola Davis, in Donna Karan Atelier

8- Katherine Heigl, in Zac Posen
At first glance my reaction is what is Mariah Carey doing at the Golden Globes this year? When I realise its Miss Heigl my heart just sank.  I don’t have a problem with the colour and the silhouette, it normally would look very chic on the red carpet but off the shoulder straps are always tricky cause I find it narrows the shoulders and widens the arms.  Also why on earth would any women in the world want to wear a dress with a big arrow pointing towards her vagina?  The barbie blond curls really cheapens the whole outfit. She looks like a call girl trying to look elegant at a black tie dinner
8. Katherine Heigl, in Zac Posen

7- Melissa McCarthy, with Carla Amorim and Doves by Doron Paloma jewels
I understand curvy actress often find it hard to get designers to make something unconventional for them for the red carpet so kudos to that. The silhouette looks amazing on her figure and the soft pink works well with her hair and makeup. The problem is the tie with the big bell sleeves immediately moved this dress to costume territory.  This is appropriate if you are the lead singer for a choir at a church wedding but looks weird for an actress at the golden globes.
7. Melissa McCarthy, with Carla Amorim and Doves by Doron Paloma jewels

6- Lena Dunham in Zac Posen
Like many actresses on this list from the neck up she looks beautiful. The bob looks very quirky and fun on her even though the makeup is too much – there is too much blush to go with a red dress. The colour of the dress is beautiful but the silhouette- with the stiff seems of the dress does absolutely nothing good to her body. The curves of the hemline and the seems makes her look more round then she really is.  It looks like deflated red basketball made into a dress.  Cute shoes though.
6. Lena Dunham, in Zac Posen

5. Kerry Washington, in custom Mary Katrantzou
I like the fact that she takes risk on the red carpet but really don’t get this princess Barbie look.  The off the shoulder strap with the sweet heart neckline with this ball gown silhouette is so cliche its funny, the hem length just looks like they ran out of fabric. But the biggest mistake is the material- its so stiff that it looks like a project runway challenge – make a dress out of materials found at a hardware store inspired by princess barbie.
5. Kerry Washington, in custom Mary Katrantzou

4- Rosamund Pike, in Vera Wang
I was so surprised when I realise this dress is by Vera Wang, the queen of elegance and glamour cause this dress feels extremely vulgar for her.  Even though I understand Rosamund just had a baby but the cutouts, the symmetry of the straps and the low cut makes her look frumpy and boxy at the same time. The severe office women bob does absolutely nothing to soften this look.  The dress would look awesome on Heidi or J lo cause they have the style and figure to pull this off but definitely not for her. #WORSEDEBUTEVER for the Golden Globes norminee.  On the positive, even though most people say this is the worse of the night, for me there is definitely worse.
4. Rosamund Pike, in Vera Wang

3- Zosia Mamet, in Andrew Gn
Yawn.  Another princess silhouette which looks like the top and bottom comes from 2 different dress rendered in taffeta- a fabric which needs steaming as soon as she enters the limo in a colour which completely washes her out.  Zosia: never die your hair to match the bodice of the dress.  The peplum makes her hips looks wider than it really is and the whole dress looks like the muslin for a potential wedding dress.  At least Rosamund’s have SOME design lines and a nice fabric to it. This is just bland, unflattering and winkled.
3. Zosia Mamet, in Andrew Gn

2- Alan Cumming, in Calvin Klein Collection
Usually I applaud men for taking fashion risk on the red carpet but this is an example of doing it in the worse possible way.  The colour just makes him look naked from far away and it EXACTLY MATCHES HIS SKIN TONE. He looks like a skin coloured crayon.  The jacket is way too long and makes him look short and the fit of it makes him look 2 sizes bigger.  The shoes, I know its Christian Louboutin but wearing suede sneakers on a red carpet is just the biggest mistake you can make.  Alan: maybe its time to go back to the classic suit cause I would rather have NO risk taken then this weird colourless attire.2. Alan Cumming, in Calvin Klein Collection

And now, the winner of the BTW-Workshop Blog’s pick for WORSE DRESSED of Golden Globes 2015 goes to (drumroll please)

1: Jemima Kirke, in Rosie Assoulin
Futuristic Geisha goes Belly Dancing.  Firstly the fabric of the skirt looks like a slip. The top/ cape is just Bazaar and looks as stiff as a carpet.  The colour of the whole thing is sooooo bland and washes her out.  The flat ironed hair with the roots showing makes this dress even flatter than it already is.  Its never a good sign when your eye makeup have more visual interest than the whole entire outfit.  Jemima: Cher is suing you for stealing muslin sample for one of her stage wear back in the 70s.1. Jemima Kirke, in Rosie Assoulin

Golden Globes Awards 2015 Red Carpet PART 1- Best Dressed List

Awards season have begun in 2015.  Those who are into Film and TV may be guessing who will win what awards but to many fashionistas like myself the red carpet and who wears what couture is what is truly important.  Thats why this year I decided to select my favourite and worse looks to you all on this blog.

In previous years , Golden Globes is the beginning of the season and even though the dress code is formal but it is usually more fun and glamorous and actresses and actors usually take more fashion risk than the Oscars. This year the risk factor was big (even though there are some snooze buttons and WTFs but more abt that in my next post) so even with the absence of Fashion queens such as Cate Blanchett and Tilda Swinton, in general the red carpet choices was very interesting. Without further doodahs, here are my Top 15 looks of the evening.

All Photos from http://www.style.com

15: Katie Holmes, in Custom Marchesa
Many people may find this dress look too simple but for me I love the dark purple against her Brunette Hair. Crazy about the way the slick ponytail works with the simple lines of the dress. The strong smoky eyes is a perfect finish to the look. Definitely a personal best for her.

14. Michelle Monaghan, in Jason Wu
Really love this cause the silhouette reminds me of the slick simple shift gowns which Calvin Klien will design for the red carpet in the 90s.  The diagonal beading adds a glamorous touch to such a simple dress. The effortless hair with the strong eyeliner makes this look effortless yet sexy.

14. Michelle Monaghan, in Jason Wu

13 .Robin Wright, in Ralph Lauren, and Ben Foster
This is such a modern take on power couple dressing even tough all black don’t often translate well on the red carpet, I really love the androgynous haircut on her with the simple long sleeve tee with the sheer skirt as contrast.  His rugged beard works well with the all black tux. Its very hip, offbeat and chic at the same time.

13 .Robin Wright, in Ralph Lauren, and Ben Foster

12 Taylor Schilling, in custom Ralph Lauren
Like previous years, Red is a very popular colour and was seen on several actresses this year. This is such a fresh take of the classic red dress.  Really love the halter top with the ball gown silhouette. The simplicity of the gown with her minimalist hair and makeup keeps it fresh. Its not easy for such an young, sweet actress to be able to wear red and still keeping it age appropriate, kudos on making it work.

11. Julianne Moore, in Givenchy Haute Couture, with Chopard jewels
Bling was another popular trend this year. I really love the ombre effect going from silver to grey ending in black. The tank neckline keeps it modern (would hate it if its strapless).  Its glamorous, modern and chic.  This would’ve gotten higher on this list if she styled her hair differently. A chignon or bigger waves would’ve glam it up a bit.

11. Julianne Moore, in Givenchy Haute Couture, with Chopard jewels

10, Naomi Watts in Gucci, with Bulgari jewels and bag, and Liev Schreiber, in Prada
I always applaud actresses who choose to wear yellow on the red carpet because not many actresses dare to do it.  Its a colour which don’t need any sequins or dramatic silhouette in order to be dramatic. Love the simplicity of the dress with the red lip, the belt makes it very chic. Its elegant and a ray of sunshine on the red carpet.

10.Naomi Watts, in Gucci, with Bulgari jewels and bag, and Liev Schreiber, in Prada

9. Catherine Zita Jones in Angel Sanchez
Against a sea of red ballgowns, this probably would’ve looked boring on any other actress, HOWEVER the best actress any women can have is confidence. This is her saying  even if theres a chance we will see variations of this dress tonight, I am Catherine Zita Jones, I look beautiful, PHOTOGRAPH ME NOW.  Very regal, very dramatic.

9. Catherine Zeta-Jones

8. Claire Danes, in Valentino
Slightly unconventional , slightly offbeat and always willing to surprise us on the Red Carpet, Claire Danes have once again proven her style versatility in this beautiful bohemian esque Dress by Valentino.  This may not be everyone’s cup of tea but I love it cause it feels so unexpected. Crazy about the statement earrings which compliments her eye makeup. Keeping the hair simple makes all eyes go to this beautiful beaded couture creation.

8. Claire Danes, in Valentino

7. Lupita Nyong’o, in Giambattista Valli Haute Couture, with Chopard jewels
Lupita have once again proven to us that she can pull off anything unconventional with this floral creation by Giambattista Valli. So beautiful against her skin tone and her ethnic beauty.  Crazy about the cascade of the print of the dress. Its very sweet and etherial with an edge.  The only reason this isn’t higher on the list is because I wish her hair is shorter like last year’s red carpet season cause personally feel it would look more clean and flattering than the afro.
7. Lupita Nyong'o, in Giambattista Valli Haute Couture, with Chopard jewels

6. Heidi Klum, in Atelier Versace
Heidi Klum in the house. This dress is sooooooo her in the sense that its dramatic silhouette, low-cut , a high slit, have bling on it, in a dramatic colour with a touch of drag. But unlike the usual Heidi looks, this has an elegant touch to it. The classic Hollywood hair and makeup really compliments this look.  It screams look at me , I am Heidi Klum ,I have a gorgeous body and still on top of my game…. Mission Accomplished…

6. Heidi Klum, in Atelier Versace

5. Lorde, in Narciso Rodriguez, with Neil Lane jewels
This may be a what was she thinking to the general public but I put this so high on the list for the risk factor. It takes a good set of balls for an actress to wear a tuxedo , a crop top paired with a diamond necklace on a red carpet which usually mean dresses and gowns and some how she pulls it off.  Its so sexy and chic. With this look, Lorde entered my list of the ones to look out for on red carpets in the future.

5. Lorde, in Narciso Rodriguez, with Neil Lane jewels

4. Felicity Jones in Dior
Elegant, Minimal and Classic this Dior Dress is sooooooo beautiful.  The colour which goes perfectly with her hair and squinting and  really stood out against a sea of bling bling and Red dresses. I love it cause it has a slight 50s touch to it with the silhouette and the high neckline. Its a dress that the colour and silhouette speaks for itself.  Like Lorde, definitely someone new to watch out for on the Red Carpet

4. felicity jones in dior

3. Jared Leto, in Lanvin
For some reason Actors in Hollywood seldom take any risk on the red carpet.  Its always the black or midnight blue tux with a white or black shirt.  Jared unlike 95% of actor is never afraid to stand out. Love the white tux with the black details. Crazy about the pop of red on the collar. Its fun, its smart yet formal enough for the occasion.  Big applause from the fashion bros…

3. Jared Leto, in Lanvin

2. Allison Williams, in Armani Privé
My first reaction to this is WOW….. This is a modern day Grace Kelly with a dark, glamorous twist. So good to see someone who can carry off Armani Prive to the style calibre as Cate Blanchett or Anne Hathaway.  The 40s glamour hair and makeup is perfect against this princess creation. Crazy about the tiers of sparkly ruffles on the classic princess silhouette.  Amongst a sea of red dresses this classic yet glamorous version is by far my favourite.

2. Allison Williams, in Armani Privé
Now with a big round of applause, The BTW-Workshop Blog pick for the winner of Best Dressed at Golden Globes 2015 is…….

2. Emma Stone in Lanvin
It was so difficult deciding between Allison Williams and this because they are both stunning in 2 different ways, but this won because of its originality  and courage.  Like Lorde, it takes a good set of balls to wear pants to one of the most formal red carpets of the year and Emma manages to do it in a way which feels as appropriate as an Evening gown.  The sequinned bustier is the perfect juxtaposition against the masculine tuxedo trousers. The sash adds femininity and drama to the look. Love the casual undone hair and fresh looking make up. The total look is a modern and fresh new take on Red Carpet dressing. Emma Stone, I’ve always loved your style but I never thought you would have some Tilda Swinton in you to pull of such unconventional and stunning look.
