SHOEGAISM – My 20 favourite shoes of FW15

All the International runway shows for Fall- Winter 2015 is over.  My instagram followers will know that I have to biggest Shoe-fetish ever. For many many years I have had the biggest obcession with shoes from men’s to women’s, stilattos to platforms, strappy sandals to ankle boots, I love a good old SHOEGAISM – the orgasimic experience you get when looking at the beautiful works of arts designed for your feet.
As a kid, Cinderella have proven to us that 1 pair of shoes can change your life.  Carrie Bradshaw have shown us that paying for shoes is the best motivation to work. In every one’s life, no matter what size you are or how much weight you put on in the winter, your foot size will never change and will always look fabulous.  I always believe that a good taste in shoes means a good taste in life.
This seasons, the offerings from the designers have been amazing.  Mary Janes style made a huge comeback.  Embellished shoes is still a huge trends as well as clear perspects heels. Backless sandals with chunky heels became a new take of sandals for winter, and over the knee gogo boots made a comeback to go with the 60s inspired theme in winter.  While its near impossible to pick my favourite 10 pairs of shoes so I extended my list to my favourite 20 with an honorable mention award.  WIthout further doodahs, here are my top 20 picks of Fall Winter 2015. (CAUTION: its a long post but please do read on to get to the crown jewels at the end^^)

 NO: 20 – CELINE FW15

I am not usually a fan of woven leather on shoes because I find those shoes very stiff looking. However this shoes woven with the wholes makes it look lighter. The crystal embellishment adds a touch of glamour- really love the contrast against the stiff and hardness or the shoes.

NO: 19 – ERDEM FW15

I’ve always loved laced up ankle boots on women. There is something very casual chic about it. The embroidery on this beauty by Erdem makes this shoe more standout and adds a touch of feminine charm to the classic boot.  Also love the fact that the white makes it look like a cross between a pump and a boot.

NO: 18 – ROCHAS FW15

Embellished shoes is a huge trend this season. Really love the subtleness of the small sequins and beads on this gorgeous pair of pumps by Rochas.  The warm tones create harmony against the crocodile leather yet add a touch of vintage glamour.  Its business in the front yet party from the side and back.

Backless heels made a huge comeback this season.  Its the perfect shoes for Fall for those who love sandals but want to wear it for winter.  This version by Thakoon is very innovative in design.  Really love the inspiration from the hiking boot cause its something very utilitarian but transformed into such a sophisticated pair of shoes.  The seemless transition between the wool to the leather and suede gives it depth and texture. Its not easy finding a pair of brown shoes I like but this is just fabulous.

NO: 16- MIU MIU FW15

Its never easy selecting just 1 shoe from any collection by Prada or Miu Miu because Miuccia Prada is one of my favourite designers interms of shoes.  These shoes made it to this list because 1 its incredibly versitile – you can dress it up with a cocktail dress or wear it with white capris.  The heels makes it comfortable and the colour, buckle and patent leather makes a bold 60s statement with its simplity. Bravo to Miuccia part 1 hahaha.

I am usually not a fan of shoes that look comfortable cause usually the most beautiful shoes require pain.  These kneehigh slouchy boots is different because I am crazy about the metal beading on the boots against the suede.  The wedge gives it high but still comfortable.  Its the boot for the bohemian fashionistas this winter.

GoGo Boots is big this season and its so difficult selecting 1 pair from Emilo Pucci’s beautiful collection.  These Boots is a fantasy ’cause of the polkadots mixed with the sequins.  Eventhough the statement may be so big that you may only be able to wear once of twice each season but it sure will make a splash at any event or party.

Mary Jane shoes are a huge part of every girl’s childhood because they are the shoes to wear to school and parties.  This season, Dolce & Gabbana modernised the classic shoes with embellishments and applicques.  These Black suede with gold embellishment is my favourite pair of the whole collection because its so sophisicated yet so glamorous and will look perfect with any pencil skirt or LBD.

NO: 12 – JASON WU FW15

Sometimes shoegaisms don’t need to come from the most embellished or extravagant pair of shoes.  Jason Wu gave the perfect twist to the classic black pump by the triangular heel.  Its a simple statement yet so classic and timeless.  Love the gold against the black crocodile leather.

The original house of shoegaisms, Salvatone Ferragamo did not disappoint us with such a wonderful collection of art deco inspired shoes.  These babies are one of my favourites cause if the architecture of the heel , the glamour of the metalics yet such a strong bold statement with the clean yet bold design lines.  Its the shoes for the Modern Cleopatra who is not afraid to make a fashion statement.

NO: 10 – FENDI FW15

I normally have a passionate hate for fur boots because most of the time they remind me of an ugg boot and never flattering to the ankles.  Karl Lagerfeld proofed me wrong with this cute pair of boots by Fendi.  Its molded to the ankles like a glove and the clear perspect heel gives it a unique structure to the wedge and an unexpected contrast to the fur.  Its cute but edgy at the same time. Bravo to King Karl.

This Season Roberto Cavalli created the ultimate ankle boot for the Fashion Diva to wear when going out and about.  Love the leopard print against the clear heel with gold embellishment. The fact that its not too high makes it comfortable. Its a wild and glamorous take to a classic winter staple.

NO: 8 – 3.1 PHILLIP LIM FW15

These heels by Phillip Lim may look painful but they sure are good darn gorgeous. Really love the ballad slipper concept against the classic black pump.  The backless style and the wearable height of the heel makes it slightly more casual which makes it perfect with pants.  Its a clic shoe which look good in all angles. Sure its painful but definitely worth the foot massage after.

Alexander McQueen FW15

I personally am a huge fan of Alexander McQueen shoes but my style sisters always complain that while they look beautiful but they are the most uncomfortable shoes on earth.  This season Sarah Burton showed her collection with ankleboots with a wearable 4 inch heel.  While there are alot of latex and leather in the collection, this shredded lace version really stood out to me because its so soft and romantic and different from any mcqueen shoes I’ve seen before.  Perfect for any feminine style sister who is looking for the perfect ankle boot to wear this season.

My followers on instagram always complain that I don’t show enough low heeled shoes on my #shoegaism posts so this creation by Balenciaga is for you. Its so classic , sophisticated and exudes vinitage 50s glamour.  The print on the silk against the fur makes it looks lux and the kitten heel is so sexy.  Usually I like high heels because they are more flattering to the legs, but these beautiful babies are definitely the #lowheelshoeoftheseason.

These Sandals really caught my eyes at first glance but I was not too sure about them because it feels very raw  and very messy. But when I looked closely I realise its just because I find it too much with the stockings. As a shoe, its very innovative with the simple fringe and weaving technique. Really dramatic but very wearable and will make a dramatic statement throughout all seasons.

Another beautiful boot from the same collection by Emilio Pucci .These knee high boots with embroidery of stars and horoscopes are so whimsical yet the navy suede with the gold makes it look extremely lux and rich.  The clear perspect heels keeps it super on trend. It is very dramatic but very wearable to wear with any miniskirt this season.

NO: 2 – PRADA FW15

As mention earlier, Miuccia Prada will always be my favourite shoe designer for her classic and dramatic shoes with a modern twist.  This double strapped satin Mary Janes is a very classic style. The chunky heel gives it a sense of toughness mixed with the strong design line created with the leather.  The lime and gold makes it look rich and dramatic. The perfect shoe that will make a statement to any cocktail party.

And finally here is the BTW-WORKSHOP BLOG pick for the shoe of the season.

It takes a true special design if the shoe gives me goosebumps just by looking at 1 angle.  These Art Deco inspired strappy sandals speaks for itself. Its dramatic, its innovative yet not so high that its unwearable.  Crazy about how the heel seemlessly flows to the straps. Its so beautiful that I don’t care how it looks in the front.

On top of my top 20, there is also 1 special shoe which I would like to give an honourable mention to.

This beautiful pair of sandals by Giorgio Armani did not make top 20 because to be honest, it IS a style that we have seen many many times before.  However its perfectly executed with the crystals, the string tie, the height and shape of the heels with the pointed toe.  Its Cinderella story in a shoe and it is a shoe which is so timeless and will be in a women’s closet forever.

If you are reading to this point, sorry about a very long post and thanks so much for letting me rant on and on about shoes for a blog post. What do you think? Did you have as many shoegaisms as I did? Feel free to comment and leave a message in the comment section.

Thats it for now,

Until next time-

Pedder Red S/S 2015 Press Preview- Interview with the Campaign Art Director Queenie Rosita Law

Winter is coming to an end and Spring have finally arrived in Hong Kong.  For many its about storing the heavy jackets back into our closets.  For fashionistas its about the search for the Perfect summer wardrobe and one our the perks of being a fashion blogger is to be able to select our favourite pieces at press previews. Those who know me will know that one of my greatest obsessions in life are shoes. I love looking at women shoes and I love wearing mens so imagine my excitement when I was invited to Pedder Red Spring Summer 2015 Press Preview.

Pedder Red Press 1

The theme for the latest collection is “Secret Garden”.  A collection which includes a variety of styles from flats to ballerinas to sandals and heels in materials such as leather and plastic. Print was some of the key pieces include sporty loafers in lace and floral prints, Metallic strappy sandals with crystal applique and the most gorgeous pair of Stappy heels in blue suede and leather.  For me, these are the “flowers” against a range of neutral coloured shoes which really communicated the theme of “secret garden”

To present the collection, Pedder Red have hired local artist and photographer Queenie Rosita Law to do art direction for the lookbook and the  campaign and I’ve had the honor to conduct a short interview with her for this blog to have a further understanding behind the creative process of the wonderful campaign. So without further doodads, here is the full interview.

Conversation with Queenie Rosita Law- Art Director for Pedder Red Spring Summer 2015 Campaign.

TIMTIM : What is the inspiration behind the art direction of                                                                   this season’s campaign and how does it relate to the products in the new collection?

QUEENIE : The concept of this campaign is “Secret Garden” and we’ve chosen 5 images for this campaign to represent a 5 stages of this journey. Each shoe of the collection is a reflection of each stage of this series.

So the 1st stage is “Start” which features a pair of ballerina flats to represent a sense of beginning.

The 2nd is stage is “Steady” which features a pair of pumps cause a women being able to stand in a pair of pumps is very beautiful

The 3rd stage is “Run” which features a pair of floral slip on cause that is one of the sportier shoes in the collection.

The 4th is “Leap” which features a pair of metallic laced up flats which is very light and airy even though its in leather.

The 5th and final stage is “Land” which features the same pair of slip ons as “run” but in a black lace print to balance out the campaign.

In a way this is a very abstract and slightly darker take on the “secret garden” so theres no fairies or sparkles.  Mirror is used to communicate the concept of “Secret” because secrets are not fully covered, its a reflection of reality so mirrors are used to create a sense of distortion.

TIMTIM: What was the biggest challenge which you and your team came across during this project?

QUEENIE:  The biggest challenge is to tying the whole campaign together from concept to video to photography to lookbook to make it feel cohesive and having the same visual language even though we are working with different types of mediums from photography to graphics to 3D format such as video

TIMTIM: How do you define your design philosophy and your aesthetic and how does it reflect in this campaign?

QUEENIE:  I personally love to do a lot of photo imaging and collage work so the border frames around each image is photographed separately which is very simular to the work that I do.  Also the lookbook included some concept images with hand written text so these photos really reflect my own personal work as an artist.

TIMTIM: Many creative people in this field often struggle to find a balance between the art and commercial work. How do you find this balance?

QUEENIE:  As mentioned previously, in the ad campaign we have the photos which features the shoes which is more commercial but we also have the more artistic frames and concept photos so the balance is more about mixing the commercial with the art and make something beautiful out of it and also execute the concept in the best way possible.

TIMTIM: Which is your favourite photo in this campaign and why?

QUEENIE:  My favourite photos are “Run” and “Leap” not because of the final result cause metaphorically speaking “Run” is about running towards something you found in this journey while “Leap” is about jumping out of it while grasping what you found in this journey so I really like the meaning and feel of those 2 photos.

TIMTIM: What are your creative plans this year? Do you have any special projects which you have coming out this year?

QUEENIE: In the future I would love to work more with different brands to do different campaigns ’cause many brands are very product focused so its always interesting to be able to tell a story thru art for a commercial purpose. I would also love to do more of my own art work which explore imagination and reality. For example some of my work involve using polaroid photography but working thru it while the film is still developing to get this contrast between imagination and reality. This idea is almost used for this campaign but unfortunately its difficult to find this type of film but I would love to explore this concept of imagination and reality more thru my work. Hope you all enjoy this interview with the super talented Queenie, thanks so much for your time and for Pedder Red for making it happen. Its such an honour to get to know the creativity behind the beautiful work and I’ve learnt so much.

Golden Globes Awards 2015 Red Carpet PART 1- Best Dressed List

Awards season have begun in 2015.  Those who are into Film and TV may be guessing who will win what awards but to many fashionistas like myself the red carpet and who wears what couture is what is truly important.  Thats why this year I decided to select my favourite and worse looks to you all on this blog.

In previous years , Golden Globes is the beginning of the season and even though the dress code is formal but it is usually more fun and glamorous and actresses and actors usually take more fashion risk than the Oscars. This year the risk factor was big (even though there are some snooze buttons and WTFs but more abt that in my next post) so even with the absence of Fashion queens such as Cate Blanchett and Tilda Swinton, in general the red carpet choices was very interesting. Without further doodahs, here are my Top 15 looks of the evening.

All Photos from

15: Katie Holmes, in Custom Marchesa
Many people may find this dress look too simple but for me I love the dark purple against her Brunette Hair. Crazy about the way the slick ponytail works with the simple lines of the dress. The strong smoky eyes is a perfect finish to the look. Definitely a personal best for her.

15.Katie Holmes, in custom Marchesa

14. Michelle Monaghan, in Jason Wu
Really love this cause the silhouette reminds me of the slick simple shift gowns which Calvin Klien will design for the red carpet in the 90s.  The diagonal beading adds a glamorous touch to such a simple dress. The effortless hair with the strong eyeliner makes this look effortless yet sexy.

14. Michelle Monaghan, in Jason Wu

13 .Robin Wright, in Ralph Lauren, and Ben Foster
This is such a modern take on power couple dressing even tough all black don’t often translate well on the red carpet, I really love the androgynous haircut on her with the simple long sleeve tee with the sheer skirt as contrast.  His rugged beard works well with the all black tux. Its very hip, offbeat and chic at the same time.

13 .Robin Wright, in Ralph Lauren, and Ben Foster

12 Taylor Schilling, in custom Ralph Lauren
Like previous years, Red is a very popular colour and was seen on several actresses this year. This is such a fresh take of the classic red dress.  Really love the halter top with the ball gown silhouette. The simplicity of the gown with her minimalist hair and makeup keeps it fresh. Its not easy for such an young, sweet actress to be able to wear red and still keeping it age appropriate, kudos on making it work.

12 Taylor Schilling, in custom Ralph Lauren

11. Julianne Moore, in Givenchy Haute Couture, with Chopard jewels
Bling was another popular trend this year. I really love the ombre effect going from silver to grey ending in black. The tank neckline keeps it modern (would hate it if its strapless).  Its glamorous, modern and chic.  This would’ve gotten higher on this list if she styled her hair differently. A chignon or bigger waves would’ve glam it up a bit.

11. Julianne Moore, in Givenchy Haute Couture, with Chopard jewels

10, Naomi Watts in Gucci, with Bulgari jewels and bag, and Liev Schreiber, in Prada
I always applaud actresses who choose to wear yellow on the red carpet because not many actresses dare to do it.  Its a colour which don’t need any sequins or dramatic silhouette in order to be dramatic. Love the simplicity of the dress with the red lip, the belt makes it very chic. Its elegant and a ray of sunshine on the red carpet.

10.Naomi Watts, in Gucci, with Bulgari jewels and bag, and Liev Schreiber, in Prada

9. Catherine Zita Jones in Angel Sanchez
Against a sea of red ballgowns, this probably would’ve looked boring on any other actress, HOWEVER the best actress any women can have is confidence. This is her saying  even if theres a chance we will see variations of this dress tonight, I am Catherine Zita Jones, I look beautiful, PHOTOGRAPH ME NOW.  Very regal, very dramatic.

9. Catherine Zeta-Jones

8. Claire Danes, in Valentino
Slightly unconventional , slightly offbeat and always willing to surprise us on the Red Carpet, Claire Danes have once again proven her style versatility in this beautiful bohemian esque Dress by Valentino.  This may not be everyone’s cup of tea but I love it cause it feels so unexpected. Crazy about the statement earrings which compliments her eye makeup. Keeping the hair simple makes all eyes go to this beautiful beaded couture creation.

8. Claire Danes, in Valentino

7. Lupita Nyong’o, in Giambattista Valli Haute Couture, with Chopard jewels
Lupita have once again proven to us that she can pull off anything unconventional with this floral creation by Giambattista Valli. So beautiful against her skin tone and her ethnic beauty.  Crazy about the cascade of the print of the dress. Its very sweet and etherial with an edge.  The only reason this isn’t higher on the list is because I wish her hair is shorter like last year’s red carpet season cause personally feel it would look more clean and flattering than the afro.
7. Lupita Nyong'o, in Giambattista Valli Haute Couture, with Chopard jewels

6. Heidi Klum, in Atelier Versace
Heidi Klum in the house. This dress is sooooooo her in the sense that its dramatic silhouette, low-cut , a high slit, have bling on it, in a dramatic colour with a touch of drag. But unlike the usual Heidi looks, this has an elegant touch to it. The classic Hollywood hair and makeup really compliments this look.  It screams look at me , I am Heidi Klum ,I have a gorgeous body and still on top of my game…. Mission Accomplished…

6. Heidi Klum, in Atelier Versace

5. Lorde, in Narciso Rodriguez, with Neil Lane jewels
This may be a what was she thinking to the general public but I put this so high on the list for the risk factor. It takes a good set of balls for an actress to wear a tuxedo , a crop top paired with a diamond necklace on a red carpet which usually mean dresses and gowns and some how she pulls it off.  Its so sexy and chic. With this look, Lorde entered my list of the ones to look out for on red carpets in the future.

5. Lorde, in Narciso Rodriguez, with Neil Lane jewels

4. Felicity Jones in Dior
Elegant, Minimal and Classic this Dior Dress is sooooooo beautiful.  The colour which goes perfectly with her hair and squinting and  really stood out against a sea of bling bling and Red dresses. I love it cause it has a slight 50s touch to it with the silhouette and the high neckline. Its a dress that the colour and silhouette speaks for itself.  Like Lorde, definitely someone new to watch out for on the Red Carpet

4. felicity jones in dior

3. Jared Leto, in Lanvin
For some reason Actors in Hollywood seldom take any risk on the red carpet.  Its always the black or midnight blue tux with a white or black shirt.  Jared unlike 95% of actor is never afraid to stand out. Love the white tux with the black details. Crazy about the pop of red on the collar. Its fun, its smart yet formal enough for the occasion.  Big applause from the fashion bros…

3. Jared Leto, in Lanvin

2. Allison Williams, in Armani Privé
My first reaction to this is WOW….. This is a modern day Grace Kelly with a dark, glamorous twist. So good to see someone who can carry off Armani Prive to the style calibre as Cate Blanchett or Anne Hathaway.  The 40s glamour hair and makeup is perfect against this princess creation. Crazy about the tiers of sparkly ruffles on the classic princess silhouette.  Amongst a sea of red dresses this classic yet glamorous version is by far my favourite.

2. Allison Williams, in Armani Privé
Now with a big round of applause, The BTW-Workshop Blog pick for the winner of Best Dressed at Golden Globes 2015 is…….

2. Emma Stone in Lanvin
It was so difficult deciding between Allison Williams and this because they are both stunning in 2 different ways, but this won because of its originality  and courage.  Like Lorde, it takes a good set of balls to wear pants to one of the most formal red carpets of the year and Emma manages to do it in a way which feels as appropriate as an Evening gown.  The sequinned bustier is the perfect juxtaposition against the masculine tuxedo trousers. The sash adds femininity and drama to the look. Love the casual undone hair and fresh looking make up. The total look is a modern and fresh new take on Red Carpet dressing. Emma Stone, I’ve always loved your style but I never thought you would have some Tilda Swinton in you to pull of such unconventional and stunning look.

Anyway… thats it for now, Whats your favourite red carpet moment at the Golden Globes this year? please feel free to share your opinion on the comment section.

OOTD-Men In Scarf

Every once in a while we see styling trends on the runway and ask ourselves how do we take pieces from that trend or show and do that look without buying the whole outfit? For me one of my favourite shows this season is Burberry Prorsum Fall/Winter 2014 . I love the use of scarfs on men , the juxtaposition of Masculine and Femininity and the fact that the collection feels very light and airy – a breath of fresh air from the heavy warm clothing we usually get for winter.

Being able to afford only 2 key items I’ve decided to use the styling of that collection to create my version of the look to a recent event. Starting with the mesh singlet (which is not easy to wear eating) , I’ve paired it with one of my favourite Modement trousers. The coat is actually a dress worn back to front cause I am in love with the hand panted stripe on the zipper. Since the eggplant coloured scarf is strong, I want to compliment it with Blue accessories. My favourite 112 mountainyam Space Tote and My new pointed toe Costume National Patent Leather Shoes completes the total look.

Without further doodahs, Here are the photos.

Special thanks again to my blogger sister V for Visala for these awesome photos.

My first OOTD post.
For those who have read my previous post on Moschino Spring Summer 2015 collection featuring Barbie, I can’t help myself but grab my hands on 2 of the items to wear to a previous event.
Those who know me will notice that hot pink have always been my favourite colour (as seen on my blog layout, my logo and the fact that I wear it several times every month), the task for this look is to try to wear Barbie and Hot Pink but try to make such feminine colour and theme into a more masculine look.  Decide to follow one of my fashion rules I learn’t in the past few years : if the theme and items feel too feminine, keep the styling simple and masculine- with slick back hair, a black shirt and simple black dress shoes.
Without further doodahs… here is the wonderful photos by my style sister : fashion blogger VforVisala.

MOSCHINO SS 2015 – Think Pink and Dream

In every kids childhood, Barbie Dolls have been involved in our lives in some sort or form.  She is an icon of fantasy for every girl- a girl who never grows old or fat with a million different reincarnations and careers, several dream houses and mansions, a great boyfriend who she never marries but has several dream weddings just to wear the most beautiful wedding dresses and a wardrobe so big that she never have to worry about wearing the same outfit twice.

In the past decade she have transformed herself into a fashion icon.  Barbie is no longer just a fashion doll in pink dresses, she have been dressed by some of the biggest names in fashion. From Burberry to the iconic Versace dress, to Christian Louboutin who created several barbies with miniature versions of the iconic shoes and most recently Karl Lagerfeld.  In a way, Fashion Brands want to give fashionistas a piece of their beautiful clothes on the runway thu Barbie. She even have an instagram account which captures her fashion journey for Spring Summer 2015 Fashion Week.

barbie -the fashion icon

This season for the first time ever, she became the Muse for one of the biggest brands in the world – Moschino. For his second season with the fashion house, Jeremy Scott have used Barbie’s Mission – “think pink and dream” as the inspiration for his collection.  The collection merges iconic pieces of the house with the fun and glamour of Barbie.  The Collection began with many different reincarnations of Barbie- Roller Skates Barbie, Working Barbie, Cow Girl Barbie, Spa Barbie to name a few.Different Lives of BarbieThe Day Wear of the collection features many iconic pieces from Moschino with Barbie Touches.  In a way, this section of the show feels very much like what would Barbie wear from Moschino if shes a Every Day Girl?Moschino S/S 2015And of course the section which young girls would love when playing with Barbie, the evening wear.  From the Fashion Point of view, these are not elegant and will not be at the Oscars but they are certainly fun and those dresses will definitely be worn by Katie Perry in the future.evening
Some of the looks are inspired by barbie dolls in the 80s-90s.  One of the favourite parts of this collection for me is the fact that the inspiration goes both ways in the show.  For fans of Barbie, this is such a nostalgic and brought back many memories of my childhood.

The third look of the show was actually inspired by “Fashion Jeans Barbie” in 1981. The Jeans is just an adult version of the doll with the cowboy boots created in white.  The knit sweater was changed to a tee with the words “Totally Moschino” which has the exact font of “totally barbie” ads in the 80s. The Leather printed envelope clutch can be changed into a handbag for evening wear.

This knitted sweater dress and backpack ensemble reminds me alot of what girls used to wear to the park  in the 90s. Many fashion sisters will either go “I had that barbie backpack/sweater as a kid” or “”I wanted that barbie backpack/sweater as a kid but never had it” .  What Jeremy Scott did is to use these simple clothes which mattel produced in the 80s, blow it up in adult size with the  Moschino Twist. Thats the beauty of this collection… to have the clothes we wish we had or to relive our childhood memories

READY TO DYE – a fun and colourful afternoon at Fashion Farm Foundation

The DIY culture in Hong Kong have grown tremendously in the past few years.  From cooking to making crafts and teddy bears to wearable accessories, the satisfaction of having made or cooked something by myself and share it with our friends or on instagram have made this a popular pass time for weekends and holidays.  It is also a nice and healthy (non alcohol related) indoor activity to do with friends and family which is why many companies began to provide 1 day DIY courses for their products. Which is why when Fashion Farm Foundation – a community in Hong Kong that unite designers, retailers, traders, & cultural practitioners, to develop and foster synergy between business, education, lifestyle and culture posted an ad for their Tie Dye workshop, I signed up right away.Ready to Dye @ FFFTie Dying is a resist fabric dying technique which creates patterns thru tieing the fabric to create patterns and dipped in dyes.  It is a technique which is popular in many tribal countries but made popular in the hippy culture in the 70s.  Having worked with that technique several times both in childhood and during my studies in university, I thought It would be fun to see how it is done in the professional world and share with you all on my blog. Which is why it was amazing to be taught by Ready To Dye – a Handmade Tie Dye business in Hong Kong who not only sell and collaborate with different companies in HK but also offer workshop to share their technique with the general public.  Before further doodas, Here is my journey and a brief sharing on how I made 2 tie dyed tees.

DIY Tie Dye Marble Print T-shirt in BTW-Workshop Colours
1- Soak the T-shirt (or any garment in cotton preferably white) in water

2- To create a “Marble pattern” Scrunch the fabric using your fabric slowly but toughly to create irregular “blobs” with the fabric. Secure the Form with elastic bands
Sculpting the Pattern

3- Ready To Dye uses powdered dyes for dying the fabric. Mix your favorite colours into squeezable plastic bottles. And Prepare your Tee-shirt on a metal board on top of a tray.Prepare to Dye

4- Dye Your Fabric using your desired colours and patterns. Make sure you start with your lighter colour before you do the dark colours especially if you are using black like me. Also make sure you dye both sides of the fabric. Place the finished product in the microwave for 1 minute for the dye to set. Wash the dye off in water and leave to dry for 3 days.Dying the Fabric

5-  My first creation using the BTW-Workshop Colours. ^^

For my second t-shirt I want to try a more traditional pattern in a classic ethnic style stripe print often seen using this technique.  What I did was roll the t-shirt into a long stripe then secured in elastic bands to create different stripe patterns.  Then I Dyed the T-shirt the way I did previously this time in earth tones from yellow to blue to green.Pattern 2

The result is a diagonally striped t-shirt in natural almost ethnic style colours.

It was such a fun afternoon and I’ve learnt so much from the amazing artists at Ready To Dye.  Can’t Wait to wear my own creations.  Also Thanks so much Fashion Farm Foundation for organizing this amazing workshop. If you are interested.  If you are in Hong Kong and want to find out more about Ready To Wear and Fashion Farm Foundation on their future projects. Please follow them on Instagram and Facebook.

THE PRINCESS WARDROBE – photoshoot featuring clothes from Topshop

Very early on in every women s life, there will always be a fairytale princess which brought a lot of joy and dreams into their childhood.  The idea that they will be beautiful who goes thru many challenges in life then the perfect prince comes along and they will end up happily ever after in a beautiful dress.  Even though as we grow up, we realise this is so far from reality however the closest we can ever become a princess is to have the beautiful wardrobe.
In every Decade, there will be a style icon by a royal princess who’s fashion style will influence the fashion trend of that decade. In the 1950s, we have Grace Kelly – Princess Grace of Monoco who’s classic streamline style was copied by women of that era. In The 80s-90s , we had the late Princess Diana who’s haircut and glamourous evening wear was replicated into high street chain stalls all over the world.  Most recently we have Princess Kate Middleton who’s effortless and often affordable fashion choices earned her a spot as one of our style icons of this decade.
Inspired by this Princess Trend, my team and I have decided to do a photoshoot featuring clothes by Topshop . inspired by Cinderella, what will Cinderella wear if she gets inspired fellow princesses and style icons doing her princess duties?

For the first look, we are inspired by the question what will Cinderella wear if she enters the library and the world of Belle from Beauty and the Beast?  A mint green round collared sleeveless blouse was paired with a white jaquared a-line cotton skirt to create a princess like girly silhouette which is still wearable and modern.  Hair was parted in the center and pulled back intro a long, ponytail like chignon topped with a tiara headband by Accessorize to create a whimsy yet simpie look- almost like she did it herself.look1closeup

What will Cinderella wear if she goes out on press tours during the day? Knitted Tee and pencil skirt in Cinderella’s signature colour pastel blue is paired together to create a modern shift dress. Inspired by Jackie O, the look is topped with a tweed jacket in Pink and black to create a more tailored look for fornmal day Princess duties

Hair is set in a side part, curled and twisted leaving the ends loose to create a shorted hair do. This hairstyle is perfect for girls with long hair who wants to try short hair without the need of a haircut.

What will Cinderella wear if she goes out to a tea party in the woods? A Black and White Checked top to mimic the print of a picnic carpet.  A dusky pink tea length ballad skirt makes the look modern , feminine and practical for sitting down.  The hair is pulled up and finished off with 2 bands of crystals to replicate a modern version of the classic Cinderella Updo.

So thats the end of the shoot. Hope you enjoy the photos my team and I created for you this week.  For more photo shoots by me and my team, follow my blog  for future posts for behind the scene post of the concept of the photos.  For my daily post of our editorial work, check our BTW-Workshop facebook page.

As a self-confessed shopaholic, I often find myself looking for different places to shop during a dinner break or in the middle of a sleepless night.  During those moments we often enter an online shop without knowing where to shop or what to look for.  If you need a shop which A- Support Asian Online Brands , B- Well Organised , C- Gives you inspiration on the latest trends and directs you to the pieces they have available then Cross The Line is the Shop for you.

Cross The Line Page

Launched in August 2014, Cross The Line is an Online Platform which promotes up and coming fashion designers both in Hong Kong and Around Asia.  At the moment, they have 6 Fashion brands for HK and 5 Designers in Taiwan with many more to come in the future.  One of the things I find special about Cross The Line is the fact that every month, they will have a feature which serves as Inspiration for the styles of that month available in the shop. This not only allows easy access but also inspires us to look for pieces in our wardrobe which goes with our online purchases.  Also, it is a platform which not only supports HK Fashion Talents, but also introduces you to talents in Taiwan or different parts of Asia.

Without further dodads, here are my favourite pieces from each designer available at Cross The Line.

A perfect size clutch which can be worn by both Guys and Girls in every single occasion. This white “Space Clutch” is essential in your wardrobe because its so versatile and will go with everything you own for every single occasion. THE LINING IS TO DIE FOR.

The LPD (Little Printed Dress)
I love prints. I love women in prints. This beautiful LPD is easy to wear, can be worn out to lunch in summer and paired with a great blazer in cooler weather. The print is designed by the brand themselves so no need to worry about clashing with other pieces unless they are fans of the designer duo.

A daring piece for my style sisters who wants to show off their hard work both tanning at the beach and also doing those lunges at the gym. Pair it with leggings or tights for those who are abit more modest.

One of the most underated wardrobe staple ever, a crisp white tee is a must have in every man and woman’s wardrobe in every single industry. It goes with everything in your wardrobe and can be worn both to work and on weekends. The center front fabric brings a modern twist to the classic.

In summer, its often difficult to find pieces that are easy to wear, makes a statement without being too hot. Which is why a nice printed tee is always the perfect solution to wear to events and special occasions. Love the print of this Tee by the taiwanese talent.

PROJECT JUNESSHong Kongproject juness
Its often difficult for many designers to balance timeless, sophisticated, unique one one piece of jewellery.  Loving the way different materials are married thru the braiding and crochet technique on this bracelet. SO CHIC.
